"Birthers think that Obama was born in Kenya, but I think he was born on the island of Passover," joked the political cartoonist Kevin p. Kallaugher ' 77 while deftly Sketch caricatures. He stepped aside from his pad to express cute overload pictures but definitely a portrait of President Barack Obama, with a large forehead and jutting jaw.
Kallaugher, editorial cartoonist for The Economist, whose work has been published in newspapers and magazines around the world, gave a presentation last night at the home of Kirkland as part of the lecture series "Conversations with Kirkland". The event, which attracts about 30 participants, focusing on the role of satire in political akuntingnya and modern media.
Kallaugher's friend and fellow former Kirkland House residents of Frederick w. Mayer ' 78, a Professor of political science at Duke University, moderated the event.
"As a cartoonist, my job is to become a professional six years," said Kallaugher. "I find what's important in the world and then add a twist of humor."
He demonstrates this principle in his choice of the most successful, some of the cold war and some very new.
